The Shobo Dojo
IA converted timber barn at the heart of the property.
Inside are low tea tables, a kitchen, a loft bed, a large fireplace and art collected over time. It holds movement, tea, workshops, long meals and the quieter hours between them.
A home for gathering, practice and time together.
At the foot of the mountain.
The Shobo is our home.
It has taken shape slowly around the ways we like to spend time here: moving, making things, drinking tea, cooking, sitting around a fire and staying with a conversation.
Across the property are spaces for people to practise, create, eat, rest and spend a few days together.
A few times a year, we open the place for retreats, workshops and gatherings that make good use of what is here.
It is handmade, lived-in and still evolving. There is enough care for people to settle in, without everything feeling too finished.
For practice and rest. For making things, sharing food and spending time without needing to rush elsewhere.

Forty feet of burgundy canvas among the trees.
A place for circles, music, movement and conversations that continue after dark.
A generous timber kitchen and a long table.
Food is prepared and shared here. People tend to gather while it is happening.
A large outdoor firepit surrounded by stone and old timber.
It gets lit most evenings and often becomes the place the night ends.
Heat in the sauna, cold water in the pool, then a while on the grass.
Canvas tents pitched beneath the trees when the gathering extends beyond the barn.
There is no fixed way to spend a day here. It might move something like this.
Movement in the barn as the light comes up. Tea afterwards.
A workshop, making something, walking, reading or doing very little.
The sauna, the cold pool and a slow hour after.
Food around the long table, then the fire.

Groups can cook together in the kitchen, or we can introduce you to local cooks who know the place.
You bring the people, purpose and shape of the gathering. We help you understand the property, work out what is practical and connect you with local support where needed.
The Shobo is our home rather than a staffed retreat venue, so each gathering is worked out through conversation.

Start with who is coming, what you would like to do with the time and any dates you have in mind.
We will get back to you as soon as we can and let you know whether the gathering feels possible here.
